what age is best to learn Ballet? Is 11 okay?

by admin on February 23, 2010

I am 11 years old and I am a girl, I have never learned Ballet before but I really want to! I want to know is my age okay to learn or that I am too old? Is there any good schools in Kuwait?
And what do I need to prepare to go to classes and where can I buy them from? Thanks

The younger you start, the better. If it is something you really want to do, enroll in a dance studio ASAP to be successful!

You’re a little old. If you start now and really dedicate yourself you may become good. I can’t answer the rest. Good luck!

I was dancing Ballet during the ages of 7-11. So I assume that the school might except you. Best of luck :)

11 is great! If you want to really be good, I recommend taking more than one class a week. But at 11, you are still young enough to get the technique and if you’re not already, it will be easy to become flexible. I hope that you enjoy your class… Good luck!

You will still learn a lot starting at 11. I love ballet and you should definitely take it too. You might be in classes with younger girls at first, depending on the school you go to, but don’t let that bring you down. As far as preparing for the classes, it won’t hurt to start stretching a little bit everyday. Just sit in a strattle and stretch out the hamstrings of each of you legs. You’ll also need ballet shoes, tights and a leotard which can be found at any dance store. It is very important to get the right size shoe with the elastic and everything. Some schools are very particular about what color and even brand of leotard/tights you have so you’ll want to find all that out before you start. You’ll also need to wear your hair in a bun so you might start experimenting with that. I usually use a small hair colored hair net and bobby pins. I hope this helped and good luck with ballet!
