It really depends on the individual child. If a teacher feels that a child who is nine or ten is strong enough to start pointe and it won’t be harmful to the student, then the teacher will start them en pointe.

it was so hard for me to roll through the shoe and get over the box when i first started, but I eventually got better. I love pointe now.

Yes. The bones in 11-year-old feet are not yet developed and those under 12 risk fracture or damage if they go on pointe too early. And any teacher who wants their students to do well will take the time to train their students to have good technique and to develop strength in their ankles. I hate when people take it personally; when a teacher surprises a student with “It’s time you went on pointe”, it feels amazing.

i use to hate it because i got jealous of the other girls in my class who can do center work while i still had to be on the barre. but now i’ve been on pointe 2 years and i can do center work like everyone else! yeah!

it really depends on the induvidual. some girls i know went on at 9 some will never be ready to go en pointe. as long as their feet muscles and bones and such are developed enough.
